Gil Shohat

Gil Shohat is an Israeli classical music composer, conductor and pianist.

Shohat was born in 1973 in Israel to the Ha'aretz journalist Tzipora Shohat. His first orchestral work was performed by the Israel Chamber Orchestra when he was 18. He served as the chief pianist of the Israeli Defense Forces. He is a graduate of the Tel Aviv Conservatorium and of the Tel Aviv University school of music. He studied composition and musicology in Rome and Cambridge. He composed nine symphonies, eight concertos for piano and three operas. He was named Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 2009. Shohat declares himself homosexual and lives in Jaffa with his life partner, as he stated in an interview given to Maariv on January 22, 2010.[1]
